About Me

My name is Carl. This is the blog associated with my website CarlGluck.com I am a husband, a father, stepfather, grandfather, great grandfather, and son. On March 19, 2011 I married my best friend, Farima. She came equipped with five school-aged stepchildren. Of course kids don’t quit growing or aging, and so  these children are now adults, or nearly so. Right now three of them are living out on their own, (my oldest stepson passed away when he was 22). My youngest son Paul is still living at home, attending college locally. Each one of them are my favorite – each one is special and fascinating. I love them all.

I am a professional broadcast engineer. I work at Carl T. Jones Corporation as a Senior Engineer. I work to improve and upgrade radio and TV broadcast stations. I have worked in broadcasting 50 years. I completely enjoy my work, my co-workers, and our clients. My work demands I stay on top of federal regulations and computer technology, both of which I find captivating.

When I have time my hobbies include art, amateur radio (fomerly KE0GP, now K6ENK), and an interest in theology and science. Lately I’ve been kept very busy with the activities of a busy family.

I lived alone as a widower for a couple of years. I was married to my first wife, Sharlene, for 37 years. I’ve walked through grief and loneliness. I also fell upon the support system of my other two adult children, and five grandchildren. They have always been there for me. It is hard to describe the undying love and pride I have for David and Tina, and their families. I don’t get to see them as often as I want, so we make an ongoing effort to stay in touch with texting, emails, and phone calls.

Continuing on again in marriage, this time with a beautiful lady the age of my children and step-kids the age of my grandchildren, I’m head over heels in love and behaving more like a kid than the old man I am. Living in Marriage with your Best Friend is an awesome experience. Every day is like the first. Awesome. We have already enjoyed 12 years of marriage! Time goes by fast when you’re having fun!

At the age of 71 my years get my attention from time to time. Part of this comes from the fact that I have a complete inability to understand entitlements and the modern lack of discipline. Delayed gratification is an extremely unpopular idea. My children and I joke about me being older than dirt. The physical aspects of being handicapped with leg braces and a cane, advancing osteoarthritis, and staying on top of heart disease have also given me reason for pause now and then. The Coronavirus has also become a challenge to staying healthy. I believe in our final chapter(s) we begin to truly understand the value of life.

As I have written in my blog entries, I have an inherited disease called Charcot Marie Tooth disease. In recent months my CMT has progressed to the point I am no longer able to ignore it. In fact about the only way I know to fight it is to write about it so others will learn with me about this little known affliction. In the past I have devoted time and effort to visit the John’s Hopkins Center of Excellence for CMT – one of only a few centers in the United States. That has been a very worthwhile effort and I am reaping the rewards of my hard work.

I also watch politics, religion, and the day-to-day happenings in the world. Years ago a very good friend of mine told me she thought I spent too much effort swimming against the current of the popular church and conservative teachings. I don’t seem to accept everything at face value.

With all of this I have formed a few opinions and noticed some things to pass along that might be helpful, or at least provoke thought. Oh, and I love to write. So this blog should be fun.
