Wow, another Linux Update – Bodhi Moksha

The New Desktop
The New Desktop

Among the Newest of the New in the Linux World is Bodhi Ver 3.1 with its Moksha desktop.  And while I think the team’s naming convention using names from the Buddhist Community can be confusing, their software is fantastic. The image here was captured from my cheap Chromebook after I downloaded the latest and updated it again. Too much fun. And what an operating system! Very nice.

Now I will state the obvious, what I’ve said many times before: I’m over Microsoft Windows to whatever extent it is possible. Unfortunately the business world still requires it for some specialized software written only for the Windows operating system. And I still support my family with their computers running Windows.  So I guess what is so impressive to me about the new Moksha desktop is that it is so intuitive to a Windows user that it easily replaces Windows on consumer machines.

I’ve been trying to get my daughter’s Windows 8 Laptop upgraded (?) to Windows 10, but it is so difficult to use Windows 8 the task seems somewhat impossible. It keeps upgrading 8 and telling me that the 8.1 version of Windows on her laptop doesn’t qualify for the free Windows 10 update. Okay… so maybe I have to pay $120? I went online to read about the troubles and what did I find? Result after result of user complaints resulting from upgrading to Windows 10 (or attempting to only to achieve a Black Screen of Death).

Those that have it installed and running only give it 2 1/2 stars out of 5 for satisfaction. Not good. I’m very happy to report though that the latest Bodhi Moksha operating setup is awesome. It is very tiny in disk/memory size. It operates extremely fast. Libre Office gives you everything Windows Office does and then some. And the best part is that it is all free!

Another thing I have to say: After installing the brand new release into the Chromebook I saw one thing that I didn’t think was correct. So I went on their development forum and asked about a possible bug.  Within an hour came a personal response from the main author of Bodhi, Jeff Hoogland, explaining what I was looking at, and that it wasn’t a bug at all. Very helpful. Try getting a quick response like that from Microsoft or Apple! That’s just my opinion, I don’t want to be sued by either of the big companies for tarnishing their reputation or product… I’m sure others are enjoying their products. But I’m enjoying Linux.
